Sebastin Zapeta, a 33-year-old Guatemalan migrant has been arrested in connection the death of a woman he set on fire on the subway train in Brooklyn, NY at 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
Jessica Tisch, Police Commissioner said, “As the train pulled into the station, the suspect calmly walked up to the victim who was in a seated position at the end of a subway car. The suspect used what we believe to be a lighter to ignite the victim’s clothing, which became fully engulfed in a matter of seconds.”
Joseph Gulotta, NYPD Chief of Transit said there was “no interaction between the two” and doesn’t believe they knew each other.
After posting a picture captured from the subway surveillance camera, of Zapeta on social media, three teenagers recognized him and contacted the authorities, which ending up leading to his arrest.
It isn’t yet confirmed if Zapeta is in the U.S. illegally or what charges he will face.
