The Mountain Wildfire is still burning in Ventura County, California after nearly a week. The fire has already burned through more than 20,000 acres of land and is currently about 31% contained. There have been almost 200 structures destroyed and over 11,000 are threatened.
Over 2,000 firefighters are assigned to the area. Reports are saying six people have been injured. Several evacuation warnings and orders remain in effect for Camarillo, Somis, Santa Paula and Fillmore areas.
Across the nation, the Jennings Creek Wildfire is spreading through 3,500 acres in New Jersey and New York with 20% containment. Red flag warnings were issued in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts.
Lack of rain, extremely dry conditions and wind gusts up to 40 mph in some areas have led to the spread of the fire, but the cause is still under investigation.
A volunteer firefighter from New Jersey has been treated at a hospital for smoke inhalation and Dariel Vasques, 18, a New York State volunteer forest ranger died when he was hit be a falling tree.
