Walmart is recalling nearly 10,000 cases of Great Value apple juice due to higher levels of inorganic arsenic. The recalled 6-pack of 8-ounce plastic bottles of apple juice was sold in 25 states along the east coast, including Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. The apple juice is being recalled in Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont and West Virginia.
Inorganic arsenic is naturally occurring, but the recalled product indicates the levels are slightly higher than normal.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said the juice could cause temporary health symptoms, but believes the levels found are low enough and unlikely to cause serious or irreversible problems. Symptoms of arsenic poisoning could include diarrhea, stomach pains/problems, muscle cramps or dumbness.
No illnesses or deaths have been reported.
