Jessica Morales, 65-year-old Walmart employee was stabbed to death inside the Lake Elsinore store.
Riverside County deputies were dispatched to location about 7:00 a.m. responding to an assault with a deadly weapon report. Deputies performed medical aid to Morales, who sustained multiple stab wounds, but she was pronounced dead on the scene.
Lonnie Hinton, 29, was arrested on suspicion of murder when he turned himself in to the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station. Hinton was on parole after being released from state prison earlier this year for robbery.
Initial reports are that Hinton was upset when Morales didn’t have a key to open a locked cabinet.
A spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Department said, “This appears to be a random event, and there was no interaction between the suspect and the victim prior to the assault.”
Walmart said in a statement, “We’re heartbroken by what’s happened at our Lake Elsinore store. The facility will remain closed as we work with police during their investigation. We offer our condolences and support to the family during this difficult time and will continue working with our associates, providing support as needed.”
