Walmart has announced it is closing 51 health care centers across six states. They will also be ending their virtual health care services.
The clinics that will be shutting down are in Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Missouri and Texas. Patients that already had scheduled appointments will still be seen. Walmart will continue to recommend providers that are available through the patient's insurance.
This announcement comes just one month after Walgreens closed 140 of its VillageMD primary care clinics, and plans to close an additional 20 more.
Walmart's 4,600 pharmacies and 3,000 vision centers will not be affected by these closings.
In Walmart's announcement they said it was a "difficult decision" but stated that the health care option was not sustainable for the company because of the "challenging reimbursement environment and escalating operating costs."
"We determined there is not a sustainable business model for us to continue."
