Volkswagen Recalls SUVs Over Faulty Air Bag Issues

Volkswagen is recalling over 271,000 Atlas SUVs due an issue leading to the front passenger airbag not working properly.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said, “The Passenger Occupant Detection System (PODS) may experience a fault in the wiring and deactivate the front passenger air bag when the seat is occupied.”

The 2020-2024 Atlas Cross Sport and the 2021-2024 Atlas vehicles are the models possibly affected.

According to the recall report, until the affected vehicles are fixed, passengers should avoid sitting in the front passenger seat “whenever possible” due to the “increased risk of injury.”

Volkswagen said, “Once parts are ready, Volkswagen dealers will replace the PODS sensor mat and wiring harness with improved parts free of charge.”

Affected customers should expect notification letters in mid-August.
