Former presidential candidate and DOGE co-chair, Vivek Ramaswamy, is expected to launch his bid for Governor of Ohio.
Ramaswamy, 39, a Cincinnati-born biotech entrepreneur, plans to kick off his campaign against a competitive GOP primary field, which includes Dave Yost, Ohio Attorney General and Heather Brazell-Hill, an entrepreneur from Appalachia. Dr. Amy Acton, former state health director of Ohio is the only Democrat running thus far.
Due to term limits, Mike DeWine, current Governor of Ohio, cannot run for reelection in 2026 and Lt. Governor Jon Husted who was appointed to the U.S. Senate by DeWine to replace Vice President J.D. Vance, will not run.
Ramaswamy stepped aside from DOGE because he thought the job would prevent him from campaigning and believed he’d be more useful to the cause in the Governor role in Ohio.
Ramaswamy said, “President Trump, Elon and I had a great relationship but talked about exactly where each of us was going to drive maximum change for the country. And, for me, I believe that leading from the front here in Ohio and setting an example for the rest of the country and, frankly, even bringing some of the principles of efficiency and spending and deregulation to our state would be the way that I as a leader would be able to have the biggest impact.”
