Heavy rain and high winds are causing mandatory evacuations for parts of Santa Barbara and Ventura counties in California.
Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency for 8 different counties.
School has been canceled across Santa Barbara. Several roads have been closed due to flooding and downed trees and power lines. Several inches of rain has already fallen and an additional 1-3 inches are expected, with some areas potentially facing up to 8 inches.
Already nearly 38 million peoples are under flood alerts, over 500,000 are without power, and threats of life threatening flash floods and mudslides are possible.
Karen Bass, Mayor of Los Angeles said, “We are evacuating people in the northern part of the city and hillside communities that had experienced fires, and so we are worried about slides post fire.”
