On Wednesday, the Trump administration announced that they have ended United States Agency for International Development's (USAID) taxpayer funded subscriptions to news publications such as Politico.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that before the subscriptions were cancelled over $8 million taxpayer dollars went to "essentially subsidizing subscriptions to Politico on the taxpayer's dime" and that "such spending will no longer be happening."
In 237 transactions, USAID pumped $8.2 million to Politico LLC, according to USASpending.gov.
It's been reported that The New York Times and The Associated Press also received funds.
Leavitt said...
"This is a whole government effort to ensure that we are going line by line when it comes to the federal government's books."
