Last night, the US finally retaliated to the 19 (now 20) attacks against our troops over the past 10 days, which it has been enduring from militia groups in the Middle East. The drone and rocket attacks have injured more than 21 soldiers, and 1 US citizen contractor died from a cardiac incident while sheltering in place.
In self–defense, US forces sent two F-16’s in Abu Kamal, Syria, hitting ammunition sites. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reportedly administers one site for weapon storage and the other site is an ammunition production factory. Officials said there were no civilians at the sites struck and were occupied by Iranian aligned militia groups and IRGC personnel.
Despite the fact that we bombed them over night, Iranian militia groups continued to fire on US forces today. The US shot down another 1 way combat drone heading for Al-Asad Air Base, making it a total of 20 attacks now.
US. Defense Secretary, Lloyd Austin statement said, “The United States does not seek conflict and has no intention nor desire to engage in further hostilities, but these Iranian-backed attacks against US forces are unacceptable and must stop. Iran wants to hide its hand and deny its role in these attacks against our forces. We will not let them. If attacks by Iran’s proxies against the US forces continue, we will not hesitate to take further necessary measures to protect our people.”
Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder, Pentagon Press Secretary said, “As we’ve done in the past, we certainly reserve the right to take additional strikes and continue to ensure that the message is loud and clear, that we will protect our forces. And that these kinds of attacks are unacceptable.”
The Defense Department said the Navy is positioning 2 carrier strike groups in the region, along with fire aircraft, missile defense systems and troops.
