The University of Connecticut Huskies have signed legendary head coach Geno Auriemma to a 5 year, $18.7 million contract extension to lead the Women's basketball team through April 2029.
The Huskies have had Auriemma at the helm for 39 years as he transformed the program into a women's college basketball powerhouse. The Huskies have won a record 11 national championships, had 6 undefeated seasons and 27 conference tournament titles. They reached their 23rd Final Four under Auriemma last season.
"I still find it hard to believe that I've been at UConn for over half my life. I feel like there's so much more that can be done, and will be done, and I'm excited to be the one to do it with my staff and my team," Auriemma said.
The Hall of Famer is just 4 victories away from passing Tara VanDerveer as the winningest coach in college basketball history.
