U.S. Gymnast Stripped of a Bronze Medal

U.S. bronze medal winner Jordan Chiles is being asked to return her floor exercise medal. After Chiles score was announced, leaving her in 5th place, her coach Cecile Landi, challenged the score, won the challenge and it pushed her into 3rd place over Romania’s Ana Barbosu.

Over the weekend, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) voided the challenge saying the U.S. filed the challenge 4 seconds after the 1-minute time frame, therefore it came in too late. 

USA Gymnastics said it submitted video evidence to CAS that Landi’s challenge request was submitted 47 seconds after Chiles’ score was published. USA Gymnastics is now appealing the IOC’s decision to strip Chiles of her bronze medal.
