Trump to Offer “Gold Card” Visas

Updated: Feb 26

President Donald Trump announced his new immigration idea; he’s planning on selling a “Gold Card” visa to wealthy foreigners for $5 million.

Trump said the proposed Gold Card is, “going to give you green card privileges, plus it’s going to be a route to citizenship and wealthy people will be coming into our country by buying this card.” Trump says the Gold Card is “a higher level of sophistication.”

Howard Lutnick, Commerce Secretary said the Gold Card would replace the EB-5 visas in about 2 weeks. The EB-5 visas were created in 1990 to entice foreign investors to come to America, invest in a commercial enterprise and employ a minimum of 10 permanent full time personnel.

Lutnick said, “They’ll have to go through vetting, of course, to make sure they’re wonderful world-class global citizens.”

Typically, Congress determines citizenship qualifications, but Trump said the Gold Cards wouldn’t require congressional approval.
