Tropical Storm Ernesto Coming Across the Atlantic

Tropical Storm Ernesto is the fifth named storm of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season. Winds have been gusting over 55 mph.

The hurricane center said, “On the forecast track, the center of Ernesto should pass near or over the Virgin Islands this evening, and then pass just to the northeast and north of Puerto Rico tonight and on Wednesday.”

By Thursday, Ernesto is expected to strengthen into a hurricane, just north of Cuba, and Jamaica.

Parts of the Leeward and Virgin Islands could get 3 to 6 inches of rain and Puerto Rico could get up to 10 inches. There is also a possibility of flash flooding.

Spaghetti plots show the storm moving north toward Bermuda.

There currently doesn’t appear to be a threat to the U.S.
