TikTok Sues U.S

On Tuesday, Bytedance, the company that owns TikTok sued the United States Government to stop the new law that would ban the popular app in the U.S. unless it is sold by its Chinese parent company.

The new law states TikTok will be forced to shutdown on January 19th, 2025 if a sale is not completed by then or proof that a sale is in the works.

The petition states...

"For the first time in history, Congress has enacted a law that subjects a single, named speech platform to a permanent, nationwide ban, and bars every American from participating in a unique online community with more than one billion people worldwide."

TikTok claims it has never been asked to give user data of Americans by the Chinese government.

The Chinese government has made it clear that it would not permit a divestment of the recommendation engine that is key to the success of TikTok.

Bytedance has stated it would not sell its U.S. operations.
