For the first time in a decade, the Detroit Tigers are heading to the playoffs. With their 4-1 win over the hapless Chicago White Sox on Friday night, the Tigers secured a wild cad spot.
Since August 10th the Tigers have gone 31-11 despite the fact that they were sellers at the trade deadline, and on September 6th they sat 5.5 games out of the final American League wild card spot. Over the final weeks of the season Detroit went on an improbable surge, winning 16 of 20 games to pull into a wild card spot. They are now riding a six-game winning streak with two games left in the regular season.
