Three U.S. Soldiers Killed On Military Base In The Middle East

Updated: Jan 29

Three U.S. service members were killed over this weekend in Jordan after a fatal, overnight drone strike was near the barracks, in northeast Jordan, and at this time, over 34 were injured. About 350 American troops are stationed at the Tower 22 Outpost, which has been there since 2015 and is located at the border where Syria, Iraq and Jordan meet.

President Biden said in a statement, “While we are still gathering the facts of this attacks, we know it was carried out by radical Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq.”

It is said the drone was mistaken for a U.S. drone that was expected to return to the base at the same time, which is why it was able to slip by the outpost’s air defenses.

Defense Secretary, Lloyd Austin said, “The President and I will not tolerate attack on US forces and we will take all necessary actions to defend the US and our troops.”

Senate Republican Leader, Mitch McConnell said, “Our enemies are emboldened. And they will remain so until the United States imposes serious, crippling costs – not only on the front-line terrorist proxies, but on their Iranian sponsors who wear American blood as a badge of honor.”

Since October 17th, U.S. forces have had over 160 attacks on them.

“Have no doubt – we will hold all those responsible to account at a time and in a manner of our choosing… We shall respond,” Biden said.
