Thailand’s Parliament has elected its second female Prime Minister (PM), Paetongtarn Shinawatra. At only 37-years-old, Shinawatra is also the youngest PM elected.
Shinawatra is the daughter and niece of two former Prime Ministers, her father Thaksin and her aunt Yingluck, who was the country’s first female PM.
Never serving in government prior to being elected, Shinawatra easily won nearly two-thirds of the votes with 319.
Shinawatra said, “I hope I can do my best to make the country go forward. That’s what I’m trying to do. Today I’m honored and I feel very happy.”
