Three sold out Taylor Swift concerts were canceled in Vienna Wednesday when at least two suspects confessed to planning to “kill as many people as possible outside the concert venue.” Close to 200,000 Swift fans were expected to attend the concert, including some that traveled there from the U.S.
Officials said one of the suspects, a 19-year-old, had pledged his allegiance to ISIS and was focused on the Taylor Swift Era’s Concert events. Investigators found chemical substances, bomb making materials and technical devices in his home.
Both suspects had become radicalized through the internet and had specific, detailed plans on how they would execute their attack.
Barracuda Music, the event organizers said in a post on its Instagram site, “With confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack at Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three shows for everyone’s safety.” They also added, “All tickets will be automatically refunded within the next 10 business days.”
