For the first time in the past six years, Target’s sales have dropped this quarter. The second quarter sales have gone down 5.4% from the same time a year ago. On a conference call with the company’s executives, CEO Brian Cornell, believes the decline is due to the bigger economic problems Americans are facing, such as customers cutting back on spending due to high inflation and the resumption of student loan payments in the fall. Other executives blamed the sales slump on the repercussions the company is facing from the Pride Month displays and merchandise.
Chief Growth Officer, Christina Hennington added on the call that, “The headwinds were incremental, including the strong reaction to this year’s Pride assortment.” Target had pulled some Pride items off their shelves after receiving critique from customers complaining of all the rainbows and the word “Pride” on them. Employees also were harassed and received threats over the merchandise and displays. It went as far as seven state attorney generals sending letters to Target warning them that some of the clothing being sold during the Pride month campaign may be in violation of their state’s child protection laws.
Although the Pride merchandise is no new comer to Target’s yearly line, this is the first year it has received backlash from it. The company has also been tormented with a rise in violent incidents at its stores and an increase in theft. According to Cornell, Target will be “mindful of timing, placement and presentation” of its Pride and other heritage month celebrations in the future and will reconsider its mix of brands and partners.”
Even though the company has had "pride merchandise" before, millions of consumers eyes are finally open to the constant attempt to destroy the nuclear family and push a woke agenda on our children. These customers are now fighting back against the wokeness. These woke companies continue to cave to the lefts agenda and cater to the few that have loud mouths.
