Tropical Storm Tammy has recently been updated to a Category 1 hurricane, as its winds have increased to 75 mph.
The center of Tammy is heading toward the northern Leeward Islands and anticipated to reach there late today.
Gusty winds, storm surge and tropical downpours are expected Friday and Saturday. It is also possible for flash flooding and mudslides occurring.
The Leeward Islands could face maximum amounts of 12 inches of rain, with up to 6 inches along the Northern Windward Islands. Puerto Rico, the British and U.S. Virgin Islands could also receive up to 4 inches of rain.
Tammy is expected to weaken once it interacts with land, then be pulled northward, into the open ocean, and away from any land.
