The Starbucks Workers United union, representing over 10,000 workers has voted to authorize a nationwide strike.
The vote comes just before the last bargaining session of the year. The union is claiming Starbucks hasn’t brought a comprehensive economic package to the table and was prompted by the hundreds of unfair labor practice cases that remain unsettled. The union is also pressing for higher pay, increased staffing and schedule improvements.
A Starbucks spokesperson said, “It is disappointing that the union is considering a strike rather than focusing on what have been extremely productive negotiations.” The coffeehouse chain “remain[s] committed to working together and committed to reaching a final framework agreement,” was added.
