The long awaited season 2 of Squid Game is set to premiere on Netflix on December 26.
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk had a vision and developed the idea of Squid Game in 2009, but was rejected for 10 years by actors and media companies, until Netflix took an interest in the project around 2019 in hopes of expanding their foreign programming. The first season of Squid Game premiered on September 17, 2021 and the series was sampled by 111 million accounts, ranking it as one of Netflix’s most popular shows and films while breaking records.
Hwang was asked about season 2 and said, “I do have a lot on my shoulders, but I’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.”
Lead character Gi-hun, aka Player 456, played by Lee Jung-jae is returning along with Front Man character played by Lee Byung-hun, police detective Hwang Jun-ho, played by Wi Ha-jun, and the Salesman played by Gong Yoo.
Season 2 picks up after season’s finale.
