Shooting After K.C. Chiefs Parade Leaves 1 Dead

A joyous occasion celebrating the Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, was tainted at the end when a deadly shooting broke out shortly after Chiefs players were up on stage, on the west side of Union Station.

At this time, one woman, Elizabeth ‘Lisa’ Lopez-Galvan, 43 had died, and 22 victims were injured between ages 8-47, with at least half of them being under the age of 16-years-old.

Three suspects have been detained, two of them being juveniles. Several firearms have been recovered. Fans/citizens physically assisted in capturing one of the suspects.

Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said preliminary findings of the investigation found there’s no connection to terrorism or homegrown violent extremism, but appears to have been a dispute between several people which ended in gunfire. She thanked all officers, first responders and citizens that assisted promptly in the incident.

Kansas City Fire Department Chief Ross Grundyson said they weren’t expecting this tragedy, but were ready and prepared for it. He spoke on the number of victims saying, “One of those was a fatality, we had eight would be considered immediately life-threatening patients, we had seven with life threatening injuries and we had six that were at minor injuries.”

This is still a very active investigation and authorities are asking the public if anyone directly witnessed or has video of the incident to call 816-413-3477.
