Today is Sherlock Holmes Day. This date was chosen because it is the birthday of creator and author of the famous detective, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Conan Doyle created Sherlock Holmes in 1887 when he first appeared in a short story, A Study in Scarlet in the Beeton’s Christmas Annual magazine.
Since the first publication, Conan Doyle wrote 62 stories, including 4 novels and 58 short stories from 1887-1927 on the character. The character also appeared in films and TV series.
Sherlock Holmes Day has been celebrated since 2013.
