Severe Turbulence Causes One Death & Thirty Injured

A Singapore Airlines has left one person dead and 30 people injured on a flight that hit “severe turbulence” Tuesday.

The flight was heading from London to Singapore, but was diverted to Bangkok, Thailand for an emergency landing at 3:45 p.m. local time.

The 30 injured people needed hospital treatment, while other passengers with minor injuries were treated at the airport. At least 7 people were critically injured.

The deceased was a 73-year-old man with some medical and heart problems, which could have contributed to a fatal cardiac arrest. The actual cause of death will be determined after investigation.

General Manager of Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport Kittipong Kittikachorn said the cause of the turbulence was “definitely air pockets,” but an investigation would be completed for confirmation.
