Search Underway for Missing Plane in Alaska

A Bering Air Caravan leaving Unalakleet, AK, heading to Nome, AK has gone missing. 


The Cessna 208B Grand Caravan took off on Thursday afternoon about 2:37 p.m. and was last seen over the Norton Sound at about 3:16 p.m. according to data from flight tracker FlightRadar 24. At about 4 p.m., Alaskan State Troopers got the reports of the flight being overdue and missing.


The Coast Guard, National Guard and the Air Force deployed flights trying to locate the missing plane that was carrying 10 people including the pilot.. 


The FBI is also assisting with the search of technical resources; working on geolocation of cell phones of the plane’s passengers and using cellular tower data.


Ground crews are also contributing to search efforts along the coast from Nome to Topkok.
