Sean “Diddy” Combs Arrested in New York

Rapper, producer and founder of Bad Boys Records, Sean “Diddy” Combs, 58, was arrested and charged with sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, racketeering conspiracy and transportation to engage in prostitution.

Federal authorities took Combs into custody Monday at a hotel in Manhattan and he is expected to appear in court Tuesday afternoon.

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said in a press conference, “Combs used force, threats of force and coercion to cause victims to engage in extended sexual performances with male commercial sex workers. Some of whom he transported over state lines. Combs allegedly planned and controlled the sex performances, which he called “Freak Offs” and he often electronically recorded them.”

“When Combs didn’t get his way, he was violent and he subjected victims to physical, emotional, and verbal abuse so that they would participate in the ‘Freak Offs,’” Williams also said.

Combs’ legal team is proposing a $50 million bond but the U.S. government is against any bond and is requesting for him to remain behind bars until his trial. Prosecutors wrote a 16 page letter stating why they believe Combs should remain in jail. Prosecutors request pre-trial detention and said, “If released he remains a serious risk of flight… Most glaringly, the defendant poses a significant risk of obstructing justice… He has already tried to obstruct the government’s investigation of this case, repeatedly contacting victims and witnesses and feeding them false narratives of events… There are simply no conditions that would ensure that the defendant’s efforts to obstruct and tamper with witnesses will stop.”

Each of the charges carries a minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and a maximum life sentence.
