Sea Lion “Invasion” at California Beach

Hundreds of sea lions have “invaded” San Carlos Beach in Monterey, CA, leaving park authorities to temporarily closing the beach. Officials are asking residents and visitors to stay away until further notice and to view the sea lions from at least 50 yards away.

People are also reminded not to feed, capture or harm/kill any of the mammals, and could face substantial fines or jail time, as the sea lions are protected under the Marine Mammal Protection Act.

The sea lions are expected to linger on the beach for another 3-4 weeks.
