Scheffler Arrested On His Way to PGA Championship

Number one golfer in the world, Scottie Scheffler was arrested on his way to the Valhalla Golf Club for the second round of the PGA Championship in Louisville, Kentucky just after 6 a.m. this morning.

Scheffler is facing charges of second-degree assault of an officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic.

Scheffler was trying to get to the match and reportedly drove around a fatal accident scene on the median, thinking it was security, but it was the police. Authorities claimed they told Scheffler to stop, but he kept driving. An officer attached himself to the side of Scheffler’s vehicle. Scheffler is said to roll down his window to speak to the officer once he stopped, but the officer reached inside the vehicle, pulled Scheffler out, cuffed and took him to jail. Det. Bryan Gillis, the officer wrote in his report that he was “dragged to the ground and suffered pain, swelling, and abrasions to his left wrist. Gillis was taken to the hospital for his injuries.

Scheffler was released at 8:40 a.m. and arrived to Valhalla in less than an hour before his 10:08 tee time. Scheffler said, “It was a very chaotic situation, understandably so considering the tragic accident that occurred earlier, and there was a big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do. I never intended to disregard any of the instructions. I’m hopeful to put this to the side and focus on golf today.”
