The 2023 actors strike may be coming to an end soon. SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists unions) said they’ve made significant progress with negotiations with Hollywood’s major studios and their CEO’s yesterday.
The day was spent dealing with artificial intelligence (AI), one of the key issues that remain. The union isn’t trying to forbid studios from using AI to create “digital doubles,” but wants language guaranteeing consent and minimum compensation for its use.
Negotiations will continue today, on its 111th day of the strike, while SAG-AFTRA is holding a “unity picket” at Disney headquarters in Burbank, California. Other picketing locations are canceled for today.
A new agreement can be reached as early as this week or next week.
