The iconic “Ruby Slippers” from classic movie The Wizard of Oz sold at an auction for $28 million; $32.5 million after the auction house’s fees get added. An anonymous buyer bought the ruby slippers worn by actress Judy Garland.
A total of four pairs of the ruby slippers remain today that were worn by Garland during the making of the 1939 film; two housed in the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and one belonging to a private collector.
The sale of the legendary ruby slippers became the most expensive and valuable piece of movie memorabilia ever sold.
