Rescue Efforts Continue In Collapsed Tunnel In India

Updated: Nov 28, 2023

For 11 days now, rescuers continue drilling deeper into rubble that has 41 workers trapped underground since last Sunday after a road tunnel collapsed in India.

Construction workers were building a tunnel when a landslide caused a portion of the tunnel to collapsed.

No deaths are reported, and some workers are complaining of body aches and feeling of a fever, but they are alive, and have no deterioration in their condition. The trapped workers are getting nuts, roasted chickpeas, popcorn and medicine every two hours through a pipe.

Drilling machines, excavators and other heavy equipment is being used. About 200 disaster relief personnel have also created an escape tunnel made of pipes welded together in efforts to push through an opening of the excavated debris to get the workers out.

It is also reported that government administrator, Gaurav Singh has gotten in touch with the Thai experts who helped in the rescue of the trapped youth soccer team in a Thailand cave in 2018, as well as the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute.
