Record Setting Opener

The opening long weekend of the NFL season is now complete. It started with a Thursday night opener for the record books. Then it hit Brazil on Friday night for the first ever game there, then a full slate of games on Sunday, and opening weekend officially wrapped up with Monday Night Football in San Francisco.

With all the numbers in, the Thursday night opener between the Baltimore Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs in Kansas City at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium was the most watched NFL opening game in history.

The game, won by the Chiefs 27-20, averaged 28.9 million viewers. It peaked at 33 million viewers in the second quarter.

Just months ago, the Kansas City Chiefs were also part of the most watched telecast in history with 123.4 million average viewers across all platforms with their 25-22 overtime win in Super Bowl LVIII over the San Francisco 49ers.
