Rangers Crowned Champs

The Texas Rangers have won their first World Series Championship in the franchise's 63 year history.

The Rangers shutout the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-0 last night in Phoenix using 6 strong innings from starter Nathan Eovaldi (5-0, 2.95) who allowed only 4 hits with 5K's, followed by two relievers. Josh Sborz went the final 2.1 innings allowing only 1 hit & 4K's to earn the save.

It was a good pitchers duel for most of the game as the Diamondbacks starter Zac Gallen had a no-hitter heading into the 7th inning.

The Rangers broke it open with four runs in the ninth backed by a 2-run shot by Marcus Semien.

Arizona second baseman Ketel Marte was held hitless for the first time going 0-2 snapping his playoff hitting streak. He walked three times to extend his streak of reaching base safely in all 21 of his career postseason games. He set the MLB postseason record for having a hit in 20 straight games.

Rangers shortstop Corey Seager who went 2-4 in the deciding game was named the World Series MVP. Seager who won a World Series MVP with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2020 joined Hall of Famers Sandy Kaufax, Bob Gibson and Reggie Jackson as the only players in MLB history to win two World Series MVP awards.

A celebration for Texas is set for Friday with a parade in the Arlington entertainment district.
