Rain Finally Stops In California

After days of the atmospheric river storm in California, the rain has finally stopped.

This storm has left over a foot of rain in some areas; 7 inches alone has fallen in downtown Los Angeles causing not only flooding, but, about 475 mudslides occurred, 400 trees have fallen, which have crushed citizens, several buildings and homes were destroyed, about 50 people have been rescued and the death toll is at 9.

At one point, there were nearly 1 million people without power, now it seems to be around 70,000. Evacuations have been lifted in Santa Barbara, Ventura and L.A. counties, but the mudslide risk still remains.

Mayor of Los Angeles, Karan Bass warns, “Our hillsides are already saturated. So even not-very-heavy rains could still lead to additional mudslides…Even when the rain stops, the ground may continue to shift.”

Bass said the city will be looking for federal aid and working on recovery.
