The Las Vegas Raiders announced last night they have fired coach Josh McDaniels and general manager David Ziegler. Owner Mark Davis said, “After much thought about what the Raiders need to move forward, I have decided to part ways with Josh and Dave. I want to thank them both for their hard work and wish them and their families nothing but the best.” When asked to embellish on the reason for the firings, Davis said, “No comment at this time.”
Linebackers coach, Antonio Pierce was named as interim coach and Champ Kelly, assistant general manager will serve as the general manager until the end of the season. Mick Lombardi, offensive coordinator, was also let go and current quarterback coach, Bo Hardegree will take his place as well as taking over for offensive play calling, which McDaniels used to do.
McDaniels and Ziegler were both hired in January 2022 and were expected to take the team to the “next step.” On the contrary, their record was 9-16 throughout the 25 games during their administration without a playoff appearance.
