Prime Minister of Haiti Resigns

Ariel Henry, Prime Minister of Haiti has resigned from his position he had since July 2021.

Henry was appointed Prime Minister after the assassination of Jovenel Moise.

Henry’s resignation comes in the middle of the gang and crime crisis Haiti is facing.

Gangs are overtaking and attacking areas of government structures, causing chaos and the extreme violence has displaced hundreds of thousands of people.

Henry said his government would leave immediately after the inauguration of a transitional council is in place, which will be set up by the Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM). CARICOM will lay the foundations for an election in Haiti.

Henry said, “Haiti needs peace. Haiti needs stability.”
