A strike from shipping giant is possibly forthcoming if negotiations and contracts aren’t met at the end of today, June 30, 2023. The union representing UPS, the Teamsters, say they have been in negotiations with UPS on new contract ratification for roughly 340,000 employees for the past few months.
Both sides have agreed to get air conditioning in the delivery vehicles, but when it came to pay raises and benefits, they have not come to terms with an offer. Beginning in 2024, the company will begin with new air-conditioned vehicles in the hottest parts of the country first, and then continue making the adjustments throughout the US.
The labor union said UPS’ latest offer on salaries was “insulting and appalling.” Currently, the starting salary for a new employee is at about $15. per hour, and seasoned employees can see about $38. per hour.
