Possible Suspect Detained in Connection with Deputy Killing

Los Angeles Sheriff’s Deputy, Ryan Clinkunbroomer, 30, was fatally shot in his head Saturday evening while sitting at a red light. Clinkunbroomer was on duty, in uniform, in a marked L.A. County Sheriff’s vehicle waiting for the light to change after just leaving the Palmdale police station.

Clinkunbroomer was found unconscious by a civilian around 6 p.m. and got rushed to the Antelope Valley Medical Center, but succumbed to his injuries and pronounced dead. Authorities believed the “vehicle of interest” was captured on video and described as a 2006- 2012 dark gray Toyota Corolla. This led to an unidentified person of interest being detained early this morning by authorities, with having connections to the ambush of the deputy. It is said the suspect is a 29-year-old male, was taken into custody after deputies deployed chemical agents at his home, where he surrendered to them.

Clinkunbroomer had just gotten engaged 4 days prior to the attack and was “just starting his life,” according to Los Angeles County Sheriff, Robert Luna. Luna also said there is currently no known motive for the shooting other than “he was in uniform.”
