Pope Francis, 88, is awake on the 10th day of his hospitalization. Pope Francis is fighting double pneumonia, which has aggravated early stages of kidney failure. Pope Francis was having difficulty breathing several days before being admitted into the hospital on February 14.
The Pope remains in critical condition and is still on oxygen but is showing some improvements. Blood tests showed his renal insufficiencies are now under control. Pope Francis was said to have rested well overnight, was able to feed himself with out any artificial or liquid nutrition and is responding to treatments.
The Vatican said his prognosis is still guarded and although there aren’t any current signs of sepsis, it remains the biggest threat.
Pope Francis posted on X: “I have recently received many messages of affection, and I have been particularly struck by the letters and drawings from children. Thank you for your closeness, and for the consoling prayers I have received from all over the world!”
