Passenger Plane And Coast Guard Plane Collide In Japan

A Japanese Airline passenger plane crashed into a Japanese Coast Guard plane on the runway of Tokyo’s Haneda Airport on Tuesday at 5:47 p.m. local time (3:47 a.m. ET) and burst into flames.

There were 379 passengers and crew on board the passenger plane. They had only 90 seconds to evacuate the aircraft, and they did safely.  About 11 passengers were either taken to the hospital, or the airport’s medical clinic.

Unfortunately, 5 of the six Japanese Coast Guard members were killed in the crash, and the pilot, who escaped is severely injured. The plane was heading out to deliver relief goods to residents affected by the recent earthquake in western Japan.

Haneda Airport is closed and under investigation. The cause of the accident is currently unknown.
