The National Weather Service said, “A Pacific storm with atmospheric river will bring heavy mountain snow and strong winds to the Sierra Nevada and heavy rainfall over parts of coastal southern California through Thursday. Severe thunderstorms are likely in the ArkLaTex this afternoon and evening. An extended period of critical to extremely critical fire weather conditions will continue in the southern Plains through Saturday.”
The Lower Mississippi Valley also faces scattered showers and thunderstorms. Severe storms and wind and hail are forecast in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.
The storm could bring torrential rain to Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco and risks of flash flooding, mudslides and debris are threats.
Evacuation warnings and orders were issued for residents and officials shut down several major roads including a section of Pacific Coast Highway, Las Flores Canyon Road and Malibu Canyon Road.
Blizzard conditions are possible with 1-3 feet of snow, wind gusts of 40-70 mph and risks of avalanches in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
