On This Day In History

On July 1, 1867, Canada was established as a self-governing state, gaining its independence after the British North America Act came into effect. The day is now know as Canada Day, but was originally called Dominion Day. The nation’s capital, Ottawa has a huge celebration which draws in tens of thousands of people to Parliament Hill to see the Canadian Forces Snowbirds air demonstration, various parades, fireworks, barbecues, etc.
