On June 27, 1950, President Harry S. Truman announced he was ordering U.S. air and naval forces to South Korea to aid them in the invasion of communist North Korea. Truman announced America’s intervention was to contain and prevent communism. There was concern that the Soviet Union and Communist China encouraged North Korea to invade South Korea.
