On This Day In History

June 5th, 1968...

Just after midnight on June 5th, 1968 Senator Robert Kennedy was shot in Los Angeles, California at the Ambassador Hotel after winning the California presidential primary.

Immediately after calling for unity and an end to the country's fractious divisions, Kennedy was shot several times by 24-year-old Palestinian Sirhan Sirhan. He would be pronounced dead the next day.

While going out the rear exit of the Ambassador Hotel, Kennedy was shot by Sirhan Sirhan when he stepped forward with a rolled-up campaign poster, hiding his .22 revolver from only a foot away and fired several shots at Kennedy.
