On This Day In History

On May 3, 1952, Lieutenant Colonel Joseph O. Fletcher of Oklahoma and Lieutenant Colonel William P. Benedict of California were the first to land an aircraft on the North Pole in an Air Force C-47.

Upon landing, Fletcher climbed out of the plane, walked to the exact geographic North Pole, and was the first person to do so.
