On This Day In History

On May 3, 1933, “The Godfather of Soul,” James Brown was born. Basically born stillborn, Brown’s aunt revived him in Barnwell, South Carolina. His Aunt Honey, who ran a brothel and sold moonshine, brought up Brown; he never knew his parents.

Brown was also known for his dance moves, quick feet, splits, and popping the mike to the floor and back. Although Brown had dozens of songs on the Hot 100, none ever actually reached number one. Brown died on Christmas day, 2006.
