On April 30, 1945, Adolf Hitler committed suicide in his underground bunker in
Berlin. Just the day before, Hitler married his long-time mistress Eva Braun. The two
swallowed a cyanide capsule and Hitler then shot himself in the head with his
service pistol. Not only did they poison themselves, but their dogs as well.
Germany then unconditionally surrendered to the Allied forces eight days later.
