On April 29, 1992, the Los Angeles, California riots erupted after four L.A. police

officers were acquitted of any wrongdoing even though they were caught on video

brutally beating Rodney King. King was a felon who was paroled in 1991, led police

on a high-speed chase through L.A. streets, before he eventually surrendered. King

was resisting arrest and intoxicated, which led to the officers beating him.

Three days of rioting ended with more than 60 people dead, nearly 2,000 injured,

7,000 arrests, almost $1 billion in property damage and burned more than 3,000

buildings.
